"Keep Your Blooming Onion!"

I just returned from my first ever city council meeting. The hot topic was an ordinance to allow alcohol sales in our county on Sunday "in eating establishments only". The reasoning behind this was this: How could we get quality restaurants in our little town if we didn't allow alcohol sales? I must say I was as proud of our community tonight as I've ever been, as proud as a mother of her newborn child....regardless of how unimpressed the world is. There is a saying, "Evil thrives when good men do nothing"....We have been blessed in our town beyond belief but those blessing have come from obedience when the world begs to differ! Many churches were represented tonight by the pastors in the community. Many of them stood and rallied for this ordinance to NOT be passed in our community. Several citizens also stood and shared the negative impact of alcohol that they had witnessed in the community either directly or indirectly. One pastor said something to this effect, "If I have to sacrifice my morals, then they (referring to one restaurant imp articular) can keep their blooming onion"....The most profound person to speak was a lady that is known to be a prayer warrior in our community. As she turned to address the city council members she stated, "Gentlemen, you have stood before us and told us that you are men of God, if that's true, I implore you, do the right thing". When all was said and done, a motion was made to deny this ordinance that would allow Sunday alcohol sales.

Tonight I told Kaitlin, "Now you know what it means to be an American, we have the right and freedom to have our voices heard." I was so proud of our pastors and the unified front of believers that was represented tonight.

It's too bad this didn't happen in Lowndes. Mr. G could tell you some stories about how it was passed here. Sad.

Well Mrs. G...you know how that goes, in this world that we live in....I'm sure that this battle is not over, but I do feel like God will bless us for taking a stand as of now....
